A proverb in Latin says it best: “The example educates.” Truly, the example educates. It's a wonder if anything else ever does. Educating by example is what true education is all about. An elementary education innovator startled us with these words: “Educate right at the moment someone can apply it with success.” This book is a book of education by example. You won't find the obligatory 125 pages about object philosophy. You won't find page after page of icons and adornments. Why? Because the purpose of this book is to communicate how to build effective object models. And the only way to do that is to give you good examples, presenting key “lessons” right at the moment you can apply them with success. The best shortcut to building effective object models is to study real-life examples of building effective object models. ThatÕs why this book presents applications—along with strategies and patterns, applied along the way. The core of this book is its six application chapters. Each example is a real-life example of building an object model. Each application has enough detail in it, so that you might read it and say, “Yes, I get it. A strategy is a plan of action intended to accomplish a specific objective. A pattern is a template, one worthy of emulation. "Pattern" can apply to the plans for a product rather than to the creations made from its specifications. The word often suggests blueprints or templates to be followed in constructing the product. More generally, the word indicates the design or configuration that something takes in actuality. But the word can also refer to the perfect representative of a type, or to any example thought worthy of emulation" (Use the Right Word). Observe that: A pattern is a plan, rather than a specific implementation. A pattern is a template, to be followed during construction. A pattern is something observed from something in actuality. A pattern is an example worthy of emulation.1 An object-model pattern is a template of objects with stereotypical responsibilities and interactions; the template may be applied again and again, by analogy. Object patterns are repetitive forms, just like those in music. They occur again and again and again. You'll learn how to use them to your advantage, in building effective object models. Strategies and patterns express examples of good practice, ones that can be used to help object modelers develop more effective results. Both help developers gain an intuitive understanding, a "gut feel," for good object models. Strategies and patterns make it possible to communicate object-modeling expertise effectively. Without such patterns, that much-needed expertise is only acquired by trial-and-error. Where did these strategies and patterns come from? From continual introspection, while building hundreds of object models over a five-year period. Through time, strategies and patterns join the language of analysts and designers, even when discussing the architectural aspects of an object model. About the Author

Slobodan Jovanovic is an experienced trader of non-ferrous and precious metals. Born and educated in Belgrade, his business career started in 1980 at Invest Import, one of the largest export and import companies in former Yugoslavia. He was the first to conclude "Trepca" silver bullions export deals with Philipp Brothers of London, and Intermercur in Zurich. During this period he also became very familiar with hedging concepts and strategies and developed a keen interest in the field of derivatives trading and hedging concepts. In 1995 he moved to Athens to organise a sales network for another Serbian company and the following year he joined the Mytilineos group of companies, one of the largest non-ferrous traders in South-East Europe. He was promoted and helped conclude the deal with RHMK "Trepca," which was the largest foreign investment in Serbia at that time. In the same period he paved the way for yet another big investment scheme - the strategic alliance between Mytilineos Co. and Bor that resulted in the $1 billion "General Cooperation Agreement" deal. In terms of value, scope and duration this deal dwarfed any previous investment of a single private company in South-East Europe and was immediately labelled by the press as "The Deal of the Century". Additionally, Jovanovic's work has included the execution of complex business activities related primarily to copper trading, concentrates tolling and cathodes exports. In the course of his professional career he traded non-ferrous metals with some of the most recognised companiesin that field, such as Trafigura, Mark Rich, Glencore, Rusal, Umicore and Norddeutschen Affineire (now Aurubis). Jovanovic became a freelance hedging instructor in 2009. He runs coordination and consultation with intermediaries mainly engaged in non-ferrous metals and the cable industry interested in implementing hedging solutions in their day-to-day operations. Presently, he is engaged in designing short educational seminars on derivatives markets and hedging concepts in real-time context for the Serbian Chamber of Commerce. This is his first book on derivatives trading, commodities futures and options strategies seen from the trader's viewpoint.

I agree with SW, this is one of the best books around.The first quarter of the book is about actual hedging (ex. a bakery buying wheat futures to protect its costs.).The second quarter is an intro to options (but in great detail).The third quarter is about option pricing (Black-scholes, etc.).The fourth quarter is a detailed description of almost every option strategy known to man. All the common ones plus strips, straps, collars fences, conversions and many more.The writing is clear, the charts are clear and detailed, with examples. It is actually about commodity options, unlike some books I could mention. There are interesting insets about related topics. I didn't find any typos, which seems rare these days. The boy is vaguely upset by, yet matter-of-fact about, his parents deaths. A second visitor, Luis Secunda, eventually appears and Paolo dispassionately asks Angel not to stab the man because he does not feel like digging another grave. The three settle into an uneasy routine, with the adults vying to be Paolos father figure. A necessary trip to buy livestock is the catalyst for a number of tragic and perhaps inevitable events, including betrayal, an attempted suicide, and capital punishment. The major plot line concerns Angels awakening conscience. Through his relationship with the boy, he begins to see the importance of life and love. The long-held picture of German women holding down the home front during the war, as loyal wives and cheerleaders for the Führer, pales in comparison to Lower’s incisive case for the massive complicity, and worse, of the 500,000 young German women she places, for the first time, directly in the killing fields of the expanding Reich.

Hitler’s Furies builds a fascinating and convincing picture of a morally “lost generation” of young women, born into a defeated, tumultuous post–World War I Germany, and then swept up in the nationalistic fervor of the Nazi movement—a twisted political awakening that turned to genocide. These young women—nurses, teachers, secretaries, wives, and mistresses—saw the emerging Nazi empire as a kind of “wild east” of career and matrimonial opportunity, and yet could not have imagined what they would witness and do there. Lower, drawing on twenty years of archival and field work on the Holocaust, access to post-Soviet documents, and interviews with German witnesses, presents overwhelming evidence that these women were more than “desk murderers” or comforters of murderous German men: that they went on “shopping sprees” for Jewish-owned goods and also brutalized Jews in the ghettos of Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus; that they were present at killing-field picnics, not only providing refreshment but also taking their turn at the mass shooting. About the Author
Michael E. McCormick is currently a Corbin A. McNeill Professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the US Naval Academy. He is a Fellow of the Marine Technology Society, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. In 1976, he became the co-editor of the journal Ocean Engineering and remained so for thirty years. Prior to that, he was the editor of the Marine Technology Society Journal. Professor McCormick was the first recipient of the US Naval Academy Alumni Award for Research Excellence and was also awarded the US Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the US Navy Superior Civilian Service Award. He is the author of Ocean Engineering Wave Mechanics and Ocean Wave Energy Conversion. Professor McCormick received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Catholic University of America and a Ph.D. in civil engineering and a Sc.D. in engineering science from Trinity College, Dublin.

About the Author
Mike Press is Professor of Design Research and Head of the Art and Design Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University. He has written widely in the fields of design, the applied arts and design management, has addressed conferences worldwide and has broadcast on television and radio. Rachel Cooper is Professor of Design Management at the University of Salford where she is Director of the Adelphi Institute for Research into Creative Arts and Sciences. Author of many books and papers in the field of design research, she is also the founder of both the European Academy of Design and the Design Journal of which she is the Editorial Chair. The authors collaborated previously in writing The Design Agenda: a guide to successful design management which is published in both English and Chinese. They have co-directed projects for the Design Council, and have established the Design Policy Partnership as a think tank and research consultancy advancing socially responsible design.
